A full beard isn’t an unusual sight anymore. They certainly don’t seem to be going out of fashion any time soon either, which means a lot of men are experiencing the nightmares that come with them. Wild beard hair.
Unfortunately, you can’t just let it grow wild if you want to keep yourself neat. Some guys probably don’t really care enough to maintain their beard and just shave it off when they need to look smart. That’s not necessary though, you can be bearded AND smart.
Beards generally do go a little wild if you completely ignore them. There’s absolutely no shame in going that extra mile to take care of it though. I’ve put together a few tips that I’ve learnt from experience on how to keep yourself very well groomed.
Wait it Out
Okay, so you’re probably thinking this is dumb. Why write an article on how to tame a beard, if the first point is to just do nothing? Well, sometimes it’s the best step to take initially.
If you let your beard grow out, it may just fall on its own weight after a few weeks. The same way your head hair does after you’ve had a major trim. If things still don’t work after this point, then it’s time to move on to more drastic measures.
Grab A Comb
Again, there’s no shame in caring for your beard. Even if that means carrying about a small plastic comb for it. 10 or 15 minutes a days worth of running it through whilst sat on the sofa is a good way to train your beard on how you want it to grow.
Trust me, nobody will care that you’re carrying a comb. Don’t be self-conscious. There’s honestly nothing more relaxing than just running it through whilst sat in front of the TV for a bit.
Stop the Daily Beard Washes
Washing your beard daily may seem like the right thing to do, but it’s actually not. Don’t let your Mrs tell you this is gross either, because she will be using the exact same technique on her hair, I can guarantee it.
I’m not suggesting don’t shower everyday. That’s just dirty. However, if you only wash your beard every other day then you’re allowing it to regain those natural oils you’ve been stripping away on a daily wash.
Weekly Conditioning
If those hairs are still not falling on their own weight, then it’s time to take some physical action. Adding a bit of hair conditioner once a week can help put those beard hairs a bit more flat.
Special beard conditioner will do the trick, but it’s not necessary. Regular hair condition will do just fine. My wife is still clueless about me stealing hers… That’s until she decides to keep an eye on me and reads this, anyway.
Weed Out Troublemakers
If worst comes to worst, you’re just going to have to rid any of those unruly hairs that keep making a mess of your face, and rely on its more well-behaved neighbours.
I’m afraid if this still isn’t doing the job though, you may have to go for a different style. There’s many to choose from, but not all of them are meant for your face.
Beards, as you can see, aren’t just lumps of fluff on your face that sort themselves out. You have to put the effort in if you want it to actually look good.
