Man of the Month – June 2017

Liam Gallagher

You either love this man, or you hate him. There’s a mix of the two in this office, but recent events have definitely made this Manchester lad Man of the Month material. Best known as the front man of britpop legends, Oasis, Liam Gallagher has been quite the admirable and respectable figure after the recent terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester Arena. Going out of his way to dedicate his work to the fans that lost their lives that night, as well as a surprise appearance at the One Love Manchester charity concert, it seems he’s grown up a lot since the early Oasis days.

William John Paul “Liam” Gallagher was born in Burnage, Manchester on the 21st September 1972. He remains as one of today’s most recognized figures in British music after he rose to fame as lead singer of rock band Oasis. After the dissolution of Oasis in 2009, Liam continued his musical endeavors with some of his former band mates under the name of Beady Eye. However, it wasn’t long lived as Beady Eye then dissolved in 2014, and now Liam just performs as a solo artist. Despite his initial claims of not kicking off a solo career, it appears that he is doing exactly that with his first album being released later this year.

Liam has three children of his own, but bear with us here as it gets a bit messy. In 1997 he married actress Patsy Kensit but less than two months in to their marriage he had an affair with singer-songwriter Lisa Moorish, which led to his daughter, Molly, being born in March 1998. Later in 1999 Patsy gave birth to their son Lennon, but the couple divorced shortly after. Later again in 2001, All Saints star Nicole Appleston gave birth to Liam‘s son, Gene Gallagher. The couple wed later in 2008 and settled down… for a bit. In 2013 the pair pended for divorce after it was revealed Liam had a 2-year-old daughter that he had never met to a journalist in New York. Oops.

Liam‘s abrasive attitude has given him quite the reputation, as well as his squabbles with brother and ex-band mate Noel Gallagher. The pair have always been subject to loud arguments and sometimes even violent brawls, dating all the way back to when Oasis were making a name for themselves after their debut album “Definitely Maybe” dropped in 1994. Brother Noel describes his brother as the “angriest man you’ll ever meet” and that he’s “like a man with a fork in a world of soup”. Unfortunately for Oasis fans, Liam is the sole reason the band had to split. Noel stated he just simply couldn’t work with his brother anymore, and it seems like he doesn’t have any plans to do so ever again. Hopefully, that will change sometime soon.

One of our personal favourite Liam moments has to be his sudden outburst of road rage, when he grabbed a cyclist out of his car window and threw him straight off to the ground. Don’t worry, the cyclist wasn’t hurt. Liam was lucky to get off the hook with a warning though.

Despite his nastiness at times, Liam has done a lot to commemorate the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Manchester and is doing what he can to make all his fans know they are appreciated. 22 candles were lit at one of his recent solo shows for each victim of the attack, and even though he was due to be elsewhere, he hopped on a plane home to surprise fans at the One Love Manchester benefit concert on the 4th June – managing to keep his filthy mouth completely clean the entire time! You can’t help but respect him for his recent mature and thoughtful actions. Good man.
